Kali Noir Diamond is an alternative model from Serbia. Her work and her beauty are simply breathtaking that makes you hypnotized by the first look at her photos. The fact that she started modelling only few months ago makes us all even more stunned and proud of her amazing work, because career is growing so fast and she’s taking over the Internet and becoming true icon of Gothic Culture.
1. Can you tell us what does your modelling name, Kali Noir Diamond, mean and represent?
It is a mix of a simpler version of my name, easier to pronounce and remember, and also, Kali is the Hindu goddess associated with empowerment. The name of Kali means black one and force of time, she is therefore called the Goddess of Time, Change, Power, Creation, Preservation, and Destruction. Basically, powerful and easy to remember! The other part is French translation of “Black Diamond” which has been my writer’s pseudonym since I first started writing. It is a name I hold very close to my heart and which describes me well.
2. How would you describe yourself apart from being a model?
Oh, that is a tough one. I am a writer and a housewife, with police training and a lawyer’s and criminal profiler’s degree in my pocket.
3. I read that you wrote a book, can you tell us more about that and you as a writer?
I can’t really say much about my book since it is not published just yet, but I am counting weeks now. It is my first novel, my first born baby. A mix of science fiction and fantasy, I believe it is something not seen before, with full awareness of how crazy that statement seems. So it can go either way- people will absolutely love it or hate it. I have been writing poetry since very young age, and honestly, I never thought I will switch to prose. But I am glad I did, because that form gives me so much more space to express myself and create a whole new world.
4. Beside Kali – model and Ksenija – writer, is there anything else that you do?
As I said, I’ve successfully finished my Master’s studies in criminal profiling and I am waiting for a job in the field, which is hard to get in Serbia at this moment, any job is. When I’m not modeling or writing, I am cooking, cleaning, and taking care of my dear husband and our for cats.
5. Back to the “Kali – Model” theme, when did you start with your modelling career?
I started 4 years ago at the age of 23, with some fashion shows in Belgrade, modeling corsets and dresses. But I only started my page and international career in April 2015, so I am still learning and creating a name and space for myself in the alternative modeling world.
6. When did you take your first professional photos and can you tell us little more about that experience?
It was also during those first couple of fashion shows I did, and I remember I was amazed with the quality of photos, and how different I looked in them. I have never seen a professionally taken and retouched photograph of myself, it was really fun.
Of course, I was stiff and didn’t know what I was doing most of the time, and I had a huge stage fright in front of photographers 🙂
7. Who do you admire the most of all models?
Our alternative modeling world is very rich and diverse, so it is hard to choose, but I must say I adore La Esmeralda because she is a true fierce lady! I also love the work of Leila Lunatic.
8. Can you tell us something about your personal life?
I already mentioned that I am happily married and I would really like that to stick with people, because I get “are you single” question too many times, not to mention marriage proposals from the people who are following me on social media. Another thing that I find interesting is my overall dominant and a bit scary appearance and presence, and the impression it gives to most of the people. In reality I am a very funny and warm person, who makes everybody laugh.
9. I know that you are a cat lover, so I would like to know are you planning to do some photo shooting with those amazing creatures?
Oh yes, I absolutely adore cats! I would love to organize a photo shoot with them but I would have to find some really docile ones, which is pretty hard.
10. Do you have some tips for models who are starting to build their career and who find you inspiring?
Modeling world can be really rough and cruel, and other models who can’t handle competition will go to great lengths to demotivate you, random people will feel free to criticize you and you will discover that it is all about knowing the right people and connections, like everywhere else nowadays.
So my advice would be to arm yourself with a lot patience and confidence, surround yourself with people who will support you and never ever compare your work to anybody else’s. Be kind but not soft, and don’t take everything personally. Find your own path and persevere.
11. Name 3 things you can’t live without every single day.
The three pillars of unhealthy life- sugar, nicotine and coffee!
12. You also write an interesting and a bit controversial blog. Can you tell us a bit more about that?
It is a blog within my website on the Althemy platform which is designed to gather alternative artists of all kinds. Being a writer, I find it very easy and rewarding to express my ideas and attitude through that form. I never meant it to be controversial, but in this pretty fake and superficial world we live in, somebody who speaks their mind and tackles sensitive questions without fear of what others will think, is just that. I take great pride in what I write there, not because I am better than somebody else, but because I am completely honest and true to myself. I believe that there are important things that need to be discussed about modeling that are not just which shoes to wear and match with your purse. I think that is the reason people react to it, it is different and opposite to so many cliché blogs that can be found everywhere.
13. You have a really specific relationship with your fans and that sets you apart from most of the models. How do you manage to communicate with everyone?
It is becoming very time consuming as my page is growing like crazy, but it is something I really enjoy. All of those people who support me and love me are a very precious gift to me. So I try to communicate with each and every one of them, to get to know them and give them a minute of my time, because they deserve it, and so much more. At the end of the day, they are very big part of what makes us who we are, the models.
14. Who is your biggest support in your modelling career, who gives you strength to keep fighting in cruel modeling world?
My biggest support through all of this is definitely my mom. She is my best friend and even though she is 65, she is a big fan of Goth fashion and style.
15. Does the music play a big part in your life?
Absolutely! I’ve been playing different instruments since I was 7, and I cannot imagine a single day in my life without music. Now I don’t play anymore, but I literally don’t go out of my house without my music player. Not event to take out the trash. 🙂
Music inspires me in every way and helps me go through bad times.
16. In the end of this lovely chatting with you, do you have some message for our readers and fans?
I would love to thank Gothic and Amazing team for this interview and for all amazing support you have given me since I started my career.
And a big thank you for all of great people who are supporting the work of alternative artists. You are what gives us motivation and inspiration, and keeps our culture alive!
